PROGRAM

Your class will meet a total of 14 times over 9 months, typically on the first Friday of the month, from September to June with a few extra Saturdays.

During the program, you will learn about topics related to leadership in the Napa Valley. Below is a brief summary of some of the LNV days you have to look forward to. We hope to see you in our next class.  

• Develop leadership skills of a diverse group of current and future leaders in Napa Valley.

• Educate current and future leaders about a broad range of community programs, processes, needs, and issues.

• Introduce emerging leaders to each other and to the current leadership of the Napa Valley.
• Encourage informed individuals to serve in community leadership positions.

• Seek demographic diversity – in terms of culture, ethnicity, gender, geography, socioeconomics and professions – in each LNV class in order to reflect the true nature of the community.

• Instill the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership: Model the Way; Inspire a Shared Vision; Challenge the Process; Enable Others to Act; Encourage the Heart.

You will put your Leadership skills to work as you develop a group project to benefit the community. Hands Across the Valley, Downtown Murals, and Tedx Napa were LNV Practicum projects.

During Arts Day LNV participants look at the Napa Valley through the eyes of our artists, seeing how they challenge the process and realize their visions. Class members also experience their own creativity and explore ways they can bring fresh perspectives to their lives.

Yes there is plenty of wine on this day, but in between sips you will be exposed to the “business” of agriculture, what it means to Napa Valley, why it is so important and how it is changing.

The preferred way to see Napa County Jail and learn how criminal justice functions in Napa County. You will have a behind the scenes tour with the Police and Sheriffs’ staff and experience firsthand some of the challenges.

Be a student again. You will hear about the structure of education in Napa County and the reform efforts currently in place and then you will participate in an observational walk to see project-based learning in action. School lunches anyone?

Learn what it means to be a world-class destination and what it takes to maintain that distinction to millions of visitors each year. You will explore the Napa Valley to see for yourself all we have to offer and gain insights into how big a piece tourism plays in the local economy.

You use these services every day, but do you really know what it takes to deliver them? You will after experiencing a behind the scenes look and might even get to be the Mayor.

Why do communities grow the way they do? How do you create a sense of place in cities? Explore planning 101 with local planners and planning commissioners and gain the tools to become more involved.

How do you lead? How do you follow? What happens when you are faced with conflict? How do you work in a team? Can you collaborate? Experience this day to find out.

Challenge yourself to seek new heights – literally! You will be amazed at what you can do and how your team supports you as you experience the ropes course during this amazing day.
